A couple of weeks ago my oldest son turned 30.  How is this possible!?!  Here is the card I made for him.

When I saw this sign language alphabet from Lost Coast Designs I had to get it just for this card.  He is always signing.. has always had an interest in signing and took American Sign Language (ASL) in college.  You should see how fast he can spell his name.  I’m still forming the second letter and he is long finished!

He came home on his birthday, and I made him a cake.  But I put it on a huge plate.  Well when it was time for him to take it back to his house, it wouldn’t fit in the cake carrier.  So we put it in the wok!  Guess that makes it a cakewok!  *groan*  (His joke not mine btw!)

Now anytime I talk about family I have to include at least a picture or two of my garden… grandma’s garden that is.  Here is this grandma’s latest little flower… pure sweetness.

Here is another cute little picture of her wearing her daddy’s (my second son’s) hat.  And below that is a picture of her daddy without his hat!  lol

Jeff… errrr Lieutenant Roberts… is a dentist with the Army.  But he still gets to go through the drills and play with guns.  This makes him very happy.  When my oldest son saw this picture he said, “I would be very nervous… if I were a cavity!”  Brothers.  They couldn’t be more different in their interests, lifestyle, political views, etc..  But I love ’em both!

Hope your day is filled with lots of sweet things, too.

Happy Crafting!

Your pride shows through in every word you write about each of them. Pssst……don’t tell anyone, but my oldest is turning 40 this week! YIKES!!!! Just seeing it in print is downright scarey!! LOL

  6. WHOA!! LOVE THIS CARD! Such a nice story to show also…my oldest is turning 30 also….hmmmm..then 2 girls inbetween and the youngest is 19… My how time flys..uh? Gorgeous baby and how cool to be a dentist in the military! I really love this set and I will definitely have to check this out! TFS!!! 🙂

  7. Your grandbaby is too cute. You can definitely “hear” the pride in both of your sons in your typing.

  8. Wow, these are just wonderful! Thanks for a peek into your family life!

  9. Great guy card, Susan! Cool that Jared’s into sign language and that you found a perfect set to use on cards for him. 😉 Your granddaughter is sooo beautiful, though with good-looking sons like yours, it’s no surprise. Love that pic with all the rose petals. My hubby would ask to trade places if his dentist came in to work on him with a “tool” like that…not out of fear or anxiety, but envy! lol tfs

  10. The sign language card is wonderful! Thanks so much for the link to the site where you bought them, now I’m off to find some for cards, we have a little gal in our area who works with hearing impaired children…this will be perfect for her! Onto the wok carrier! Thought I would never stop giggling at this ingenious idea! Too funny! Awww, and your Granddaughter, so precious!
I love her in Daddy’s cap, that’s so cute! Aren’t Grandchildren the best thing to ever happen to us? We get to see the world again, through fresh little eyes.

    Love your blog!

  11. Nice card…but that baby!!! Oh my!! What an absolutely gorgeous creation! Aren’t grandchildren the absolute best? If I’d known how much fun they would be, I’d of had them first. 🙂

  12. What wonderful pics!

  13. What a wonderful family you have! Isn’t amazing how different people from the same gene pool turn out to be!! LOL I have two sons and they are very different in temperament, attitude, interests, etc. too!

Your granddaughter is such a doll! How blessed you are!!!

BTW, what did your DS think of your very clever birthday card?

  14. Thank you for sharing pictures and stories about your family Susan! I live your precious garden!
    And your card is awesome!

  15. Oh my sweetness! I adore the photo with the roses!
I like how you popped up every other sign on the card. I’m with you…I’m slow and I haven’t been using it, so by now I’m even slower!

  16. oh my goodness. your son signs. that is so cool. my oldest daughter took 4 years of ASL in high school. and now her sister wants to take it in school. we have 2 high schools in our town. the one that my youngest is going to…does not have an ASL teacher. So she can’t take it. I am going to the school to beg them to bus her back/forth.
I wish your son would move to our town and teach it.:) They need someone so badly to teach. Our district…is the only one in the area to have a deaf-ed program. So many schools come to bring their children here. It is a wonderful program.

Great card. I love love love it. I am going to purchase that set.

  17. AWESOME guy card…great colors, clean design, and I’m lovin’ the sign language stamps….the *cakewok* term made me giggle. Hee!

Thanks for sharing all the great pics of your family!

  18. Well your card is awesome…they always are Susan, but the real treat is how you share your family with us; silly jokes and all! Your granddaughter is priceless and your boys are too. How sweet of you to open the door to your heart to us! I feel very priviledged and my heart is lifted!

  19. Hi, Susan! First, I love the card. It couldn’t be more perfect for your son, the signing dentist. Love the way you alternated the popped up panels. Next, I’ve just got to say, oh, my lands, what a beautiful baby girl! She’s a real American Beauty! Finally, each of your boys have a great sense of humor! Love the cakewok comment, and the cavity comment just cracked me up! I can just hear him saying that. Aren’t boys fun? I’ve always had such a good time with my son!

  20. Great card Susan, and your granddaugher is just adorable~ Thanks for sharing pics of your lovely family 🙂

  21. Oh Susan … I was so impressed with this “sign” card, very clever!! My granddaughter will be a HS senior this year but over the summer she is taking sign language at the local State College and it will count as her 2nd language for her senior year. She is LOVING it and getting wonderful grades (not easy for her to do).

Loved the cake story and then I got to see that precious little one … what a SWEET, sweet photo of her in the flowers! What a cutie-patootie!! Dad’s a cutie-patootie too!! Thanks for sharing your family with us … you must be so proud!!
