Well December’s calendars have been made and hand delivered on Thanksgiving Day to all 4 of my sisters. It has been quite a project that was most wonderful in that I would be thinking about my sisters as I was making the calendars.
(Note to Self: Need to get a new photo taken of all 5 of us together. This was the most recent photo I could find, and it is 7 years old. Definitely need a new photo.)
There are lots of memories. How about growing up with 5 girls (6 including mom) under 1 roof and only 1 bathroom… 1 sink and no separate shower, just a tub… for the whole family!! Lots of clothes sharing and hand-me-downs, too. And yet, we felt rich. I remember Dad would get up so early to use the bathroom and then turn it over to us girls! Not sure when my 1 and only brother got his turn in there! He was the oldest and left home to join the Navy when I was only 8.
Those were simpler times with simpler dreams. Or maybe it was just that I was the kid and not the adult! lol In any case this project was one that I’m really happy I did.

Oh, Susan…WOW!! Each month’s calendar is prettier than the last! So many nice touches on each one. Love how you used the different ribbons on them, especially the October and November ones. And all of the color schemes are perfect. Thanks for sharing the photos of your family, too!
Oh my gosh, can I be an adopted sister so I can get one of these, too? They’re just FANTASTIC……..like, blow me away fantastic. So wonderfully done, I’m sure your sisters LOVED them!
I know what you mean about needing updated pics. My 4-year-old had to take a family photo in, and that’s when I realized the ONLY one I had with all four of us together was from 3 years ago….hence, the trip to the photographer for the updated one you see in the side bar of my blog, lol!

Susan, I loved your project as well as every single page you showed. The idea behind, to contact your sisters every month is so good! I did my calenders again, just finished them all – for a whole year *dooh* and I really wanted to do it your way… well, guess my brain gets old, when you are under stress, you always fall back in your old patterns, which was to make the calender for the whole year. I will have to write a note to myself for the following year!
and yes, we were only three sisters, and times were hard but happy when we were young. I am grateful, that I was able to live this time, sometimes I think the the nowaday is much harder for the younger generation… but then, this is only what they will think about their next generation as well!
Each of the month is so special… I love all the delicate and thoughtful work you put in it! Your sisters are so lucky to have you, Susan!
Thank you so much for sharing your childhood memories! I agree with you when we were kids the world around us looked much careless and easier, I see it a lot at looking at my 9 years old son. That is maybe our childhood memories are so precious! 🙂

What a beautiful write up.. I too have 4 sisters.. We had one bathroom also.. I would get up really early to get a hot bath. We didn’t even have a shower. Love these calendars.
Your calendar pages are so lovely, Susan! I’m sure your sisters have been very blessed all year long by your beautiful and thoughtful gift. I grew up with only {younger} brothers and always thought it would’ve been nice to have had a sister. It sounds like you have some wonderful memories of your childhood…just the way it should be. tfs

Thanks for sharing those priceless family photos! I can only imagine how large families dealt with one bathroom, but it obviously taught you to share and care! Your sisters are so blessed to have you make these calendars for them every month, and I’m sure they really treasure each and every one they receive! I’ve enjoyed seeing your calendar pages for your sisters. All along I thought it was the most wonderful project and one they looked forward to every month. Love the pictures and your shared memories, as well. We are close in age and I can well picture how it was for you growing up. Most people didn’t live quite so high on the hog as we do now. They were, indeed, simpler times. Not necessarily easier for the adults, but simpler, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. I remember when my Mom got her first electric mixer. My Dad insisted on giving it to her as an early Christmas present. She wanted to wait till Christmas, but he was very adamant that she open it early. When she saw what it was she nearly cried. All that fudge, divinity, and other candies she made every Christmas… all with one of those old egg beaters. What a wonderful modern convenience that electic mixer was! Gee, thanks for bringing back one of those simple memories that has stayed with me forever.
You must have put so much work into these becautse they`re absolutely GORGEOUS! I`m sure your sisters will treasure them. Great job!
It has been way too long since I’ve visited your blog and OH MY STARS! The calendars you made for your sisters are absolutely breathtaking! Just exquisite!! And thanks for sharing that bit of nostalgia. We were a house of 4 women with 2 bathrooms, but Daddy still had a hard time getting his fair share of either. Ah, the simpler times of our youth! Hopefully, a bright spot of the current economic concerns will be that folks will focus on the simpler things and realize the best gifts we have are our families.
