Still playing in the Dare To Get Dirty challenges over on Splitcoaststampers this week.  I am always so inspired by Heather Telford’s creations, and this first card is a direct result of that inspiration.  It fits into two of the DTGD challenges and is an SUO (Stampin Up Only) card.

The front of the card was masked except for the striped area.  After sponging this area with several inks (lightest to darkest), the wheat image was stamped across the front three times.

This second card qualifies for three of the challenges.

This is a pretty ancient SU stamp set, but anything to do with rain always seems to melt my heart.  So when it showed up on eBay for almost nothing… well you can guess the rest of the story!

The leaves on the designer paper were colored with a Copic marker for a closer match to her jacket.  I made a matching envelope just for fun.  All the images in this set are so darn cute!

Isn’t she adorable.

I came so close to adding dots to the umbrella, or the boots, or her jacket (especially her jacket to match the ribbon).  But this time I resisted.  Instead, using PhotoShop, I added the dots just to see what they would like like BEFORE actually doing it to the card itself.  I’m learning!

So… what do you think?  Do you like the dots.. on the umbrella?.. the boots?.. the jacket?  Or was it best to leave them off altogether!

Thanks for dropping by today.  Happy Crafting!

  1. What a stunning and clean card with the masking and the wheat image. gorgeous!

  2. Susan, your wheat card is beautiful; I love the wheat stamp and the colours you chose to sponge. Thanks for your kind words and the link. Your little umbrella girl is very sweet and your have combined colours and patterns beautifully as you always do.

  3. Love the top card! But you asked about the dots on her outfit – not that my 2 cents are worth anything – I loved the polka dots on the umbrella and her boots but I didn’t like them on her coat. So, the card on the left is my favorite. The polka dots on her coat take away from the bow, I think. I really liked that ribbon and it stood out to me more on the left card. So, there you have it! She is very cute! Your coloring was great!

  4. Great cards, Susan! I especially love the colors and clean and simple style of the first one! As for the second card,I prefer the dots on the boots and umbrella. I think they complement the green and white polka dot ribbon nicely!

  5. Terrific cards, Susan! Although this wasn’t an option you gave, I’d like to see dots on the ribbon in her hair and maybe just on the color and pockets of her jacket.

  6. Very nice rainy collection..absolutely fantastic.

  7. Both cards are lovely. I like the dots on the umbrella and the boots. If you were able to make mini dots (using white paint and a sharp toothpick, for example) then putting mini dots grouped together in threes on her jacket would look great too.

I LOVE your sponging on the first card. Having it in a strip on the white card stock really makes it POP! Just beautiful!

  8. Fantastic cards, Susan. Your DTGD card is gorgeous. What a phenomenal creation. Your second card is as cute as can be. Your coloring is perfection!

  9. Oh my the coloring of the sunset and your stamping on the first card is so very pretty, LOVE it!
Your second card is too cute, that is a neat set and always fun to get them at a good deal 🙂 If I had to vote I like the one with the dots just on the umbrella and her boots

  10. Susan, your first card is such a beauty!!!

  12. The first card is absolutley stunning! I so want to try that! 🙂
The second card looks a little Mary Engelbrite-like. so cute! I love your idea to use photoshop and decide what to add or not! I like the dots on the umbrella and the jacket, but I don’t know if I’d like them both done, lol!

  13. Susan!!!! How the heck are ya??? I hope you are very well. Your cards are so awesome! LOVE that masked off clean and simple card. That goes right into my inspiration file! Your second card is adorable and so rich with detail and color. Who would have thought to color the leaves on DP with a green to match your image? Pure genius. . .I like ALL of the dots by the way. So good to see you! Best, Curt

  14. The first card was put on facebook by the splitcoast linker! 🙂 Congrats!

  15. The first card is just awesome with those colors and stamped images! As for the second card, I actually like the white dots on the umbrella and boots better than the other 2 options, but they’re all cute!!

  16. Wow both cards are great but that first one with those sunset colors…AMAZING!!!!

  17. Darling get well card, the dots do add when they are on the jacket. Makes the ribbon stand out more. Love the CAS card.
