With three brothers-in-law whose birthdays fall very close together, I will often make their birthday cards at the same time and with a similar design.

To begin creating these scenes, I sponged the blue ink lightly at the top of the cardstock.  Then, to create the mountains, a large piece of masking paper was torn and placed across the top of the cardstock with the torn edge facing down.  The blue ink was then sponged on again at the torn edge.  The masking paper was then moved down and slightly to the left or right.  Then the sand colored mountains were sponged.  The process was repeated for the front brown mountains.

If you want to have a lake, a straight edge piece of masking paper should be placed at the bottom part of the cardstock covering the area where you want the lake to be.  This should be placed the entire time you are sponging the mountains.  When you have completed the mountains, turn the straight edge of the masking paper 180 degrees so that it covers the mountains and sponge in the lake.

The trees are then stamped.  Some ink distressing can be added by sponging a dark shadow border.

It always feels so good to get these masculine cards completed!

The first card shown today is playing along in the Creative Knockouts Challenge #28 – “Border Time” and the Fusion Card Challenge #6.  I used the sketch.

The second card is playing along in the Cardz 4 Guys Challenge #9 – “Typography”

The bottom card is playing along in the Simon Says Monday Challenge – “Distress” and the Papertake Weekly Challenge – “Bingo”.  This card’s Bingo = Ribbon / Free / Punched Shape

Thanks for dropping by today!
Happy Crafting!!

  4. These are such great MAN cards Susan! Reminds me of the hills of Arizona!

  5. Susan, thank you SO much for the detailed tutorial. These cards are just wonderful. I’m loving how you took the same basic idea and yet by using different layouts, made each unique. I love sponging (not very good at it though!) and yours is fantastic. That black trim really made your lovely colors pop. I especially loved the ‘framed photo’ one. Well done! (oh yes, glad you like the Christmas wings cards. I almost didn’t use either card, & was not happy with #1. It was a new technique to me, so I decided to post it, add the link and let others enjoy the video. It’s something I’ll try again, with a different stamp next time!) Hugs

  6. Susan, these are beautiful. You have created such a lovely scene. I am sure your brothers-in-law love them.

  20. such a great idea to do them all at once but just enough different to make them unique, I just love the 2nd one the most, just a cool layout!!

  21. I’m very impressed with these cards, Susan! Beautiful, peaceful scenes, each a little different in the scene and card design. Very nice, and skillfully executed. So often the guy cards appeal to me as much as the pretty, feminine cards because I love nature images so much. I just feel serene looking at these.

  22. Hi Susan, your card really stood out in the Fusion gallery so just had to come by and say hello. Im so glad I did as I see not one but three fabulous cards. Your sponging and stamping are divine and the colors are just glorious.
